but that可以搭配虚拟语气使用，但在您的例句中，就是一个很普通的组合，类似于except that。如：

1 but that 可以分析为介词+that从句，也可以分析为but that为复合连词引导状语从句。这种状语夸克称为除外状语，adjunct of exception.

2 there shone a brass plate 为there存在句。there在这里是形式主语，弱读。如果删去there，则为倒装句。
