柯林斯词典against释义的翻译成中文的意思的质疑
柯林斯词典释义against时，其中一条如下：
The odds against something happening are the chances or odds that it will not happen. 逆着 (机会、可能性的发生)
The odds against him surviving are incredible. 他生还的可能性太小。
以上都是词典原文摘录。
我有几点搞不懂：
1）The odds against something happening are the chances or odds that it will not happen.
我的理解是：it指something ? that it will not happen 是 the chances or odds 的同位语吧？
即the chances or odds = it will not happen.
The odds against something happening =某事不会发生的几率。
2）如果我对1）理解正确的话，那么例句
The odds against him surviving are incredible.
=The chances or
odds that HE will not survive are incredible.
就是：他不会幸存的几率are incredible = 他不会幸存的几率是难以置信的=意思就是：他幸存的几率是可信的 = 幸存可能性大。
如此，和上面词典给出的中文翻译：他生还的可能性太小。不是完全相反的意思了吗？是词典翻译成中文翻译错了吗？

注意，incredible 除表示“难以置信的”外，还可表示“极大的”（=extremely large），即 The odds against him surviving are incredible 在此的字面意思是“不利于他生还的可能性极大”或“他不能生还的可能极大”，也就是说“他生还的可能性很小”。
