动名词还是现在分词的辨析和区分

1）She was pretty cut up about them leaving.

2）Are you married, if you don't mind me asking?

=Are you married, if you don't mind my asking?

3）I caught him smoking in the bathroom.

请教老师：1) 是动名词，them leaving=their leaving吗？

对于句3），him可否换成his ? 还是catch这种结构后面不能理解成动名词？为什么catch后不能理解成动名词，而只能理解成现在分词呢？

抛开分词/动名词这些术语，我们只需知道V-ing是扮演一个形容词/副词/名词的角色中哪一个即可。

1） She was pretty cut up about them leaving.约=She was upset about their departure. 相当于名词角色

2）Are you married, if you don't mind my asking? 约=Are you married, if you don't mind my question? 相当于名词角色

3）I caught him smoking in the bathroom.=He was smoking! I found that! 相当于动词角色。句3无法用his，这是由catch somebody doing something的内在逻辑和搭配决定的。语法层次上讲叫宾语补充语。
