老师好，

我在 https://says.com/my/news/the-irwins-have-rescued-90-000-animals-as-australia-s-wildfires-rage-on 这个网站看到这个句子

Bindi said the hospital is busier than ever and assured the public that her family will do whatever it takes to save as many animals as they can. 原文没上下文，我觉得如果把it理解为形式主语，语法通，意思不通。所以这句话是间接引语，Bindi说这话的时候it有语境，it有所指，后面不定式是目的状语。只不过后来间接引语没顾及，有些out of context了？或者it理解为“虚指”？这个我不太了解，不知道该不该这么理解。还请老师解答。

理解这个句子不需要上下文。例如，I will do whatever it takes. 假如话说到这里停止，就需要上下文才能知道it指什么。但 I will do whatever it takes to help you. 这样语义就很清楚了。it为形式主语，不定式为外置主语。It may take a lot of money, time, energy or something elso to help you. take在此为need的意思。我会做所有需要做的事。注意to help you是这个“需要”的主语，不是I will do的目的状语。
