终结性非延续性动词（转态动词）+for持续状语使用的条件是，主语必须是人，for表示的持续时间是动作发生后的状态的持续时间，而不是动作本是的持续时间，而且这个持续时间是在动作发生前就主语就提前计划的。如果符合这个条件，终结性短暂动词（转态动词）就可以和for持续时间连用。如果不符合这个条件，就是语法错误。拜登的句子符合条件，所以是正确的。The shop opened for three hours. 则为错句。
