就是说，在过去某一阶段，经常做某事？

另外，顺便请教老师from up the street 中为什么from up 可以2个介词连用呢？

1 关于would, 是的，这个would表示过去的习惯动作。

2 from这个介词有些特殊，它不但可以后接名词作宾语，还可以后接地点副词作宾语，例如from here，from there，from where, from above, from underneath等。介词短语具有副词性和形容词性，所以其副词性可以让表示地点的介词短语作from的宾语，例如from behind the door, from under the bed等。刘老师的解释是这里省略了somewhere, 即from somewhere behind the door. 无论怎样解释，总之你要知道from可以后接副词和介词短语。我相信这绝不是你第一次见到from后接介词短语，为什么要大惊小怪呢？
