1.这句话中的whether it be可以看做是：it后省略了should所以才有了be原型吗？
2.如果确实是省略了should，那一般should+do（should常省略）用法是用于对将来事实假设，可在这句话中好像看不出来是将来事实假设啊!

这个让步从句中的be为虚拟语气。这是早期英语的形式，现在仅见于正式书面语。不要认为这是省略了情态动词。本来动词原型就可以在虚拟语气的句子中作谓语，表示未必是事实这层意思，以区别于陈述语气表示的事实。
这种让步从句可以省略连词whether，而把虚拟语气动词be倒装：
Be it plant or animal, dead or alive.
也可以用情态动词may:
whether it may be plant or animal, dead or alive.
现代英语非正式语体则常用陈述语气：
whether it is plant or animal, dead or alive.
