被动语态的用法

语法资料上有这样的说法：某些表示发生（happen/take place ），爆发（break out）, 传播(spread) 的不及物动词，没有被动语态。

但是有一道题是这样的 The brave man saved a girl out of a fire and the news was spread in the city quickly.

这里spread用了被动语态，这是为什么呢？也是表示传播

你说的语法资料中的spread是指这种用法：

a [no object] : to become larger or to affect a larger area : to move into more places

The fire spread quickly through the building.

The cancer has spread to her throat.

The use of computer technology has spread into all fields of work.

The odor spread throughout the room.

The plant will spread. [=the plant will produce more plants in the area around it]The fashion quickly spread from France to England.

这些句子都是不能改为被动句的。

你说的 The news was spread in the city quickly. 这个spread是及物动词，其语义为：

c [+ object] : to cause (something) to become known by many people

He was spreading lies/gossip/rumors about her.

People are spreading the word [=telling others] about his book.

所以，语法资料并没有说错。是你误解了spread的二种不同用法。

spread 可以作及物动词或者不及物动词，你的那道题用被动语态或者主动语态都正确。如：

She spread the rumor through the village. 她在村里到处散布谣言。（摘自《英汉多功能词典》新编升级版p.1639）

The rumor [news] spread quickly. 谣言[消息]很快传开了。（同上）

The news spread through the school very quickly.那则消息很快在学校里流传开来。（摘自2008年7月第1版外研社《英汉多功能词典》p.2057）
