这明明是as...as...比较结构，as 表示表语形容词desirable的程度，你怎么能说这是as引导定语从句呢？ as分句省略了成分，补全后为：as the writing of his papers would appear to reflect they were. （they指代regularity and conformity to a standard pattern）
