连词介词和不定式的疑惑
您好，老师。最近看到下面几个例句, 对连词/介词和不定式前面的to 有疑惑，望给予解惑，谢谢。
1. 柯林斯词典：Ida would not speak to him except to answer questions... （此处except,词典标为连词，其后不定式前面有to）.
2. 柯林斯词典：Nothing more to do now except wait. （此处except,词典标为连词，其后不定式前面没有to)。
3. 薄冰语法： I can do nothing for them except to send them money. (此处except被看作介词，其后不定式前面有to).
4. 牛津词典： I had no choice but to sign the contract. (此处but, 词典标为连词，其后不定式前有to).
5. 薄冰语法：I could do nothing but just sit there and hope. (此处but 被看作介词，其后不定式前没有to).
请问以上例句中的except, but 应该看作连词还是介词？其后不定式的to 什么时候需要有？什么时候不需要？

在but, except, besides, than 等少数几个介词后，可以直接跟动词不定式作宾语。严格讲，介词后只能用动名词，所以，可以把它们连词，只是省略了与前文重复的成分。
①句中有实义动词do，包括do的其他形式时，用不带 to 的不定式作介词的宾语。
What do you like to do besides swim? 除了游泳，你还喜欢做什么？
He did nothing else than laugh. 他只笑笑而已。
He was not able to do anything but/except wait. 除了等待，他什么也不能做。
I have got nothing to do but/except depend on myself. 我没有办法，只好依靠自己。
②若but, except 等介词之前没有实义动词do，而是有其他动词，则but, except 等介词后要接带to的动词不定式。
He had no choice but to give in.除了让步，他别无选择。
It had no effect except to make him angry.除了使他生气，别无效果。
I can do nothing for them except to send them money. (薄冰语法。此句不应该有 to).
