The woman 表示类指？
In the old days the woman was kept at the bottom of society, a slave who could be bought, sold or simply discarded.
上句the woman表示类指（而非特指）吧？
那么这里是否也可以用复数women或不定冠词+可数名词单数a woman来表示类指呢？

这里the woman是类指用法。本句也可以用 a woman 或者 women. 谓语动词及同位语和定语从句做相应的调整。
但要注意，并不是所有类指时，这三种形式都可以随意互换。例如下句：
The tiger is on the verge of extinction.
Tigers are on the verge of extinction.
但不能说，A tiger is on the verge of extinction.
