谓语单复数问题（a quantity of,quantities of作主语）

A quantity of customers are coming.

Quantities of earth are piled there.

请问在quantity搭配中,谓语单复数到底是根据什么来判断? 为什么A quantity of... ,quantities of...都是用复数?

根据哪个判断都行：

“a quantity of + 不可数名词”作主语，谓语动词用单数。如：

There is a quantity of information [= a lot of information] available on this topic. 关于这个话题可以找到大量的资料。（摘自《韦氏高阶英汉双解词典》p.1690）

A quantity of fertilizer was stolen from the farm. (摘自《牛津英语搭配词典》第2版英汉双解版p.1367)

“a quantity of + 复数名词”作主语，谓语动词用复数。

“Quantities of + 复数名词或不可数名词”作主语，谓语动词用复数。
