▲同意黎老师的分析。side effect 的意思是“副作用”。什么叫“副作用”，就是指在主要作用外附带产生的不好作用，或指随着主要作用而附带发生的次要作用（常指不良反应）。所以这位网友的理解是有一定道理的——“副作用”通常是“不好的”，通常不会再用bad来修饰，但如果要强调或加语气，加上一个修饰 bad 也是可能的。

▲比如《牛津英语搭配词典》就对 side effect 的修饰语归纳了以下一些：adverse, dangerous, harmful, nasty, negative, serious, severe, toxic, undesirable, unexpected, unfortunate, unpleasant, unwanted | beneficial | long-term | physical。其中 adverse（不利的，有害的），harmful（有害的），nasty（不好的，令人厌恶的），negative（否定的，不好的），undesirable（不想要的），unpleasant（不合意的，讨厌的），unwanted（不想要的）等，均含有与 bad 相同或相近的意思。如：

(1) The medication can have adverse side effects on the patient. 这种药物可能对病人有不良副作用。

(2) They claim that the drug has no harmful [=bad] side effects. 他们声称这种药没有不良副作用。

(3) The drug is extremely potent, but causes unpleasant side effects. 这种药药效极强，但会产生不良的副作用。

(4) It is apparent from scientific studies that the drug has some fairly nasty side effects. 科学研究表明，这种药有相当大的副作用。

▲顺便说一句，《牛津英语搭配词典》给出的 side effect 的修饰语中还有一个褒义形容词 beneficial（有益的；有用的；有好处的）。如：

The drug has the beneficial side effect of lowering the patient’s blood pressure.  这种药有降低病人血压的有益作用。
