请问：①reason后面是否省略了关系副词why呢？这是定语从句省略的特殊情况吗？

1. reason 后面的从句有两种说法：定语从句或同位语从句。因为可以有三种表达形式：
the reason why transit lines are struggling. （定语从句）
the reason that transit lines are struggling.（定语从句或同位语从句）
the reason transit lines are struggling.（定语从句或同位语从句），视为省略了why 或 that。
2. 区别：
part of the reason （指一大半、一小半、一半，都可以。但是，说话人的意思是“部分”。用模糊数学，不特意说明具体是多少，也没有必要说明。我们常说“部分原因”，具体占多少比例，没有人追究，说话人自己也不知道具体多少）
a part of the reason （指一小半）
the part of the reason （理由中的那一部分。本句不能用 the 特指，因为没有特指的前提，这就是错误所在）
