▲赞同对方的肯定陈述用“Yes”。如：

— She is your sister, I think.

— Yes, she is my younger sister.（是的，她是我的妹妹。）

▲赞同对方的否定陈述用“No”。如：

— He didn't come to the party last night.

— No, he had something important to do.（是的，他有重要的事要做。）

【说明】此句也可以改为：No, he didn't . He had something important to do.

在这种结构中，如果是反对对方的否定陈述，就用 Yes 回答。例如：

“I've never met her before.” “Yes, you have.” “我以前从没见过她。”“ 不，你见过。”（《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第8版）

■《牛津英语用法指南》第三版368.4指出：

“对否定疑问句作出回答时，Yes 表示动词是肯定的，No 表示动词是否定的。试比较：

—Haven't you written to Mary? 你没给玛丽写信吗？

—Yes. ( = I have written to her.)  写了。

—Haven't you told her about us?  你没同她讲关于我们的事吧？

—No. ( = I haven't told her about us.) - 没讲。

—Didn't the postman come this morning?  邮递员早晨没来过吗？

—Yes , he did. 不，他来过了。

—Didn't he bring anything for me?  他没给我带来什么东西吗？

No, he didn't. 是的，没有。

■薄冰教授在《英语惯用法词典》中指出：

在英语中，yes 与肯定句连用，no 与否定句连用。当回答一个否定疑问句时， 用 yes 还是用 no 完全取决于回答本身，而与疑问句本身没有任何关系。肯定的回答用 yes ，否定的回答用 no 。注意这种用法在回答否定问句时与汉语的表达不同。例如：

—Are the children in the garden?  孩子们在花园里吗？

—Yes , they are.（或 No, they aren't.）是的，他们在那儿。（或：不，他们不在那儿。） 

—Aren't the children in the garden? 孩子们不在花园里吗？

—Yes, they are.（或 No, they aren't.）不，他们在那儿。（或：是的，他们不在那儿。）

—Are you going out   你出去吗？

—No, I'm not.  不，我不出去。

—Aren't you going out ?

— No , I'm not. 你不出去吗？是的，我不出去。

在回答反意疑问句时，如果回答是肯定的，就要用 yes ，否则用 no ，与疑问尾句的结构没有关系。当前面的陈述部分是否定句时要特别注意，这时注意与汉语的表达不一致。例如：

—You are not going out today, are you? 你今天不出去，是吧？

—No, I am not.（或 Yes, I am. ）是的，我今天不出去。（或：不，我今天要出去。）

—They went home , didn't they?  他们回家了，是不是？

—Yes, they did. 是的，他们回家了。

—They didn't go home? did they? 他们没有回家，是吧？

—No, they didn't. 是的，他们没有回家。
