合理的解释是：把一天当中的时刻分为几段，然后加定冠词表示类指。每当说起这些时间词组时，都知道每个说法是指任何一天当中的 “上午、下午、晚上”。如果具体指某一天的“上午、下午、晚上”，特指时用定冠词，不特指用不定冠词，介词用 on 不用 in，表示特定的某一天的这个时间段。例如：

第二组：

at noon

at night

at midnight

at dawn

at dusk

at 后的时间名词，一般表示非常准确的“时间钟点”。类似我们表达的钟点：at ten (o'clock) 一样。例如： at noon 在中午12点；at midnight 在午夜12点。at dawn 和 at dusk，也是非常明确的时间点。

at night 可能是一个“特殊情况”。
