在现代英语中,一般不用who来引导名词性关系分句,比如不能说
Who told you that was lying.
而只能说 Whoever told you that was lying (有2种理解,特指和非特指)。
请教老师:
1)为什么不能用who来引导名词性关系分句? 有背后的逻辑或原因吗?
2)You are not who I thought you were. (书上说偶尔可用who引导名词性关系分句,这句就是)。
这句看不懂,如何分析成分和句意?怎么划分成分去理解句意?为什么句末有个you were ?可否去掉句末you were 呢?
还是I though是插入语,其实结构是You are not who you were ?
在早期英语中,who可用作融合性关系代词(= whoever = anyone who = the person who),但在现代英语中几乎无人再这样用了,建议不要模仿。这种用法多见于谚语或格言,属古体用法。又例如:
Who holds the purse rules the house. 有钱就有势。
Who knows most says least. 懂得最多的人,说得最少。
Who laughs last laughs best. 谁笑到最后,谁笑得最好。
