先行词是something为什么关系代词用which？

英语新概念课本第二册的77课A successful operation里中有这样一句话：They also found something which X-ray did not show: a small wax figure of the god Duamutef. 请问，先行词是something, 为什么定语从句的关系代词不是that, 而是which？

当先行词是anything, something, nothing, everything等不定代词时，关系代词用that最普通，但有时也用which，尤其是在something之后。美国当代英语语料库（COCA）中有很多这样的句子。

在先行词为 all/everything/something/anything/nothing 的定语从句中，关系代词用 which 或者 that 都是正确的。（详见赵振才：《英语常见问题解答大词典》增订版第五版p.1497）

但是，which 没有 that 普遍。所以，在考试中最好使用 that。
