情态动词would的用法

I greatly admire a company that hires and promotes on merit alone, and I couldn’t agree more with that philosophy. The age, gender, race, etc. of the person I report to would certainly make no difference to me.

 

If he can’t count on me for that, then everything else I may do or say could be questionable in his eyes. But I also want to express my thoughts in a constructive way. So my goal in this case would be to see if my boss and I could make his idea even stronger and more appealing, so that it effectively overcomes any initial reservation I or others may have about it.

 

Good human relations would call for me to go directly to the person and explain the situation, to try to enlist his help in a constructive, positive solution. If I sensed resistance, I would be as persuasive as I know how to explain the benefits we can all gain from working together

除了would be as persuasive, 我能理解为情态动词would这里表示猜测外,其他句子里的would的用法都不太能理解,不知道只是表示语气的委婉,还是其他什么用法,请教各位老师!

第一句和第二句中的would属于推测性用法,用would而没有用will, 为委婉用法,表示说话时留有余地。例如,Tom would come tomorrow. 这个句子用would比用will委婉。

第三句中的第一个would也是推测性用法,只不过谓语动词表示的习惯意义。第二个would是虚拟语气,即说话人认为自己通常不会遇到阻力。if从句为让步状语,即使遇到阻力,我也会同样具有说服力。(没有阻力,我的说服力更不用说了)。第二个would不能改为will。其余的would都可以该用will,但失去委婉的口气了。
