Be afraid在作“畏惧，恐惧”时后可接to do/doing.请问这里的不定式和动名词的时间是将来还是没时间性？如，A让B打C，B说I am afraid to hit/hitting him.这里的不定式和动名词应该是指将来吧？     甲和乙在闲聊，谈大家喜欢或害怕什么，甲说I like boating,but I am afraid to swim/swimming.请问这里的不定式和动名词没有时间性吧？

    【答】be afraid 后面不能接doing，可以接 to do 或者 of doing 。

       be afraid of doing 表示“担心会发生某事(通常是不称心的事情)”、“害怕会发生某事(通常是不称心的事情)”（be worried or anxious about something which might happen）, 如：

      He is not  afraid of dying. 他不怕死。

      She is awfully afraid of losing her job.  她特别害怕失去她的工作。

      在上述用法中，不能把 of doing 改为 to do 。但是，如果 be afraid of doing 中的 doing 是表示意志所致的行为，则 of doing 可以改为 to do ，即这里的 be afraid of doing 表示“（因担心其后果而）不敢做某事”、“（因担心其后果而）害怕做某事”。如：

      I'm afraid of telling her the truth. (= I'm afraid to tell her the truth.) 我不敢告诉她真情。

      be afraid to do 表示由于害怕而不愿去做某事（be unwilling to to something because you are frightened）, 通常译为“害怕做某事”、“不敢做某事”。如：

      Don't be afraid to ask questions. 不要不敢提问题。(= Don't fear to ask questions. )

      She was afraid to see you again. 她不敢再见你了。
