若指“一场大雨”，则连用不定冠词。如：

There was a heavy rain during the night. 夜间下了一场大雨。

若泛指一般意义的“大雨”，则不用冠词。如：

Weeks of heavy rain have washed away roads and bridges. 几周的大雨将道路和桥梁都冲垮了。

Heavy rain and excessive use have impoverished the soil. 这土地因遭大雨侵蚀及使用过度已贫瘠不堪。

若特指某场“大雨”，则用定冠词。如：

The heavy rain caused floods in the houses by the river. 这场大雨下得河边的房子里都进了水。
