关于where引导的宾语从句的问题

Mom, what did the doctor say?

He advised me to live ____ the air is fresher.

A. in where B. in which C. the place where D. where

请问老师，这道中考题为什么不能选择A选项，正确答案为D我是能理解的，因为地点状语从句修饰谓语动词live,但是选择A,把where the air is fresher看成宾语从句，做介词in的宾语不是也说得通吗？

因为where本身可以等于the place where（引导名词性从句）或者等于in/at the place where（引导地点状语从句）。所以where引导名词性从句不可以作介词in和at的宾语从句。

The air is fresher in my hometown.

现在我们把对等的where/in my hometown代入到你的句子中，得到

He advised me to live in in my hometown the air is fresher.

看到两个in重复了吗？重复就错了。
