查了字典 cast 有 vt. & vi. 投, 掷, 扔，浇铸的意思，但是没有查到 cast to 的意思（网上有说是“投下”的意思，但我没看懂），后面又加了一个invite，就更不明白了，请问老师这里该怎么理解呢？

1. cast 的本义为“塑造---转换为”，可以引申为“赋予”， be cast：（观众的角色）被转换为；被赋予为。cast 在本句不应是“给观众分配任务或角色”。观众的角色就是观众，是可以改变或转换的，但导演不能给观众分排任务或角色。

2. invite “引起，产生”；不定式 to invite active interpretation 表示“为了产生积极的解读”。
