Garfield the cat is a super star around the world. It is from a popular comic book. It is lazy and fat. But people like Garfield because of that. Now the cat is back in the news.

A man in the United States changed the gender(性别） of Garfield to "none" on the cat's Wikipedia page. After that, lots of people got angry. They kept changing Garfield's Wikipedia page. People talked about whether the cat was a boy, girl or neither.

Wikipedia finally locked the page to stop people changing it. Jim Davis, Garfield's maker, finally gave the answer.

"Garfield is male(男性）,"he told The Washington Post. Davis said he likes working with animals. Animals don't have to be old, young, boys or girls. People care so much about Garfield's gender. And he doesn't like that.

It seems like an unnecessary argument. But it is not the only recent argument about gender.

Earlier this month, the city of Melbourne in Australia made 10 special traffic lights. The lights show a girl dressed in a skirt. The city wanted to give women more confidence in public.

But not everyone likes the idea. Some people think gender equality(平等）is important in Australia. But they also think this idea is bad.

"I'm all for doing anything we can for gender equality, but really?" Robert Doyle told the Herald Sun. Doyle is the mayor of Melbourne. He said people may laugh at this idea. And it doesn't help bring respect to women.
