Those whose mothers are still living often wear pink or red rose or carnation, while those whose mothers are dead wear a white one.
请问“while”用but可以吗?

I like American films but she she likes Korean ones.
I think "but" is used correctly in this sentence. "But" can be replaced by "While" or "Whereas". I think "And" can also be used in this situation. Which word is the most suitable in this example? Please give me a clear explanation? Thank you !
"But" is the word that I'd expect to hear in the ordinary speech of my compatriots, bamboo13.
"While" and "whereas" would both work in that sentence, but they aren't as commonly used as "but" is. In my experience, "whereas" is rare in speech.
"But" is a conjunction to show contrast between two clauses. It is used correctly in this case. There should be a comma between "films" and "but": " ....films, but..." "While" and "Whereas" function as alternatives to "but." As a side note, I learned that using "where" as a conjunction should be discouraged.
"And" is also a conjunction and joins two clauses that agree. There is also no comma before "and."
