需要注意的是，有的语法书说： This is the place (where/that) they used to live. 引导定语从句的关系副词where可以省略。这种说法其实是不准确的。省略的 不是关系副词where，而是关系副词that。我们换一个地点名词：This is the house where they used to live. 先行词为house时，不能用关系副词that引导定语从句，必须使用关系副词where。假设这是非正式语体，可以省略where吗？答案很清楚，不可以！！！。所以，where是不能随便省略的。

下面分析网友的句子：

1. There are many reasons why/for which/that/不填 people want to engage in voluntourism.
   

   先行词为reason，可以用关系副词that，that也可以省略。所以四个选择都是正确的。其中最常见的是用why, 或者省略that——不填。

activities不可以用关系副词引导定语从句。that为错误。where为正确。介词+which是可以的，但要选择正确的介词。gain experience from/in/during? 用哪个介词合适呢？我觉得in 要比from更合适。所以在你确定不了用哪个介词时，最好用where作状语，避免介词的选择错误。where不可以省略（省略的是that），所以不填关系词也是错误的。

3.This is the place they once lived.

   This is the place in which they once lived.

   This is the place where they once lived.

   This is the place that they once lived.

以上四句都对。但that通常省略。故第四句最不常用。

4.Do you remenber the day on which/when/that/不填 we met each other?

四个选项都正确，但最常用的是when和省略that。

5.There is a supermarket,from which/where/that?you can buy many stuff that you need.

supermarket不可以用关系副词that引导从句，故that为错误。from which介词使用错误，应为in which. 只有where正确。（能用where地方，尽量用where，避免介词+which选错介词！）。where不可省略！
