伴随状语分析

当前后主语一致时，用的doing是表进行吗？还是只有when doing是表进行？

She sat under the tree, reading a novel.

When reading a novel, she heard a knock at the door.

第一句是现在分词作伴随状语，第二句是省略了she was 的时间状语从句，都表示进行。

短暂动词的现在分词作状语，为一般体意义，而不是进行体意义。例如：

He fell down, breaking his leg.

Falling to the groud, he broke his leg.
