as many as ten times 还是 as much as ten times

The passive has been found to be as much as ten times more frequent in one text than another.

为什么不是as many as ten times ?

我觉得这个句子只能用 as much as，不能用 as many as，至于原因，刘老师已给出了说明。但是不是 as much as 就一定不能修饰 ten times 呢？也不一定，要看情况。比如：

正：He has been there as many as ten times. 他去那儿的次数高达10次。

误：He is as many as ten times richer than all of us.

正：He is as much as ten times richer than all of us. 他的富裕程度要比我们所有的人高出10倍。

as many as 不可以修饰 ten times。

如果修饰 “10个苹果” 就可以：as many as ten apples 多达10个苹果。

ten times 是“十倍”，是个“程度概念”，不是“十个次数”。道理很简单： ten times 修饰比较级，就像 a bit, a little, much, far, a great deal, much，a lot 等一样，都是程度副词，说明“比”的程度如何。

既然 ten times 是程度副词，就不能用 many。
