《新编英语语法教程学生用书》中，章振邦将let go (of)归类为“主动词+主动词”固定搭配。

如果其习语化程度较低，也可认为是“使役动词+宾语+不带to的不定式”的宾补前置结构（比如这里就可以）

以下是关于let go of来源的一个说法（entangledbank，英国伦敦）：

• 'Let go' is ancient, but with an object: 'let go my hand' = 'let my hand go'

• It has intransitive 'let go' from early on, but the first 'let go of' is Thackeray in 1853:

例句：'Hill let go of his prey sulkily.' （a modern alteration）

I'd guess it was by association with expressions like 'keep hold of', 'take hold of'（二型介词词组动词，即”动词+名词+介词”类的词组动词）, where 'hold' can be understood as a verb but was probably originally a noun. Then the idea was transferred to 'let go', where 'go' can only be a verb.

很多时候，let go（及物用法）和let go of可以交替使用，但可能存在意思上的细微差别：

这三个表达都可以说：

let the fish go （正常结构）

let go the fish （宾补前置）

let go of the fish （口语用法。多了一个 of，只为顺口，但不符合语法。）
