as bright as any 为什么是最聪明的意思呢

Tom is as bright as any in the class

=Tom is the brightest pupil in the class

为什么上述2句含义一样呢？按中文理解，Tom和任何一个同学一样聪明，但我们通常不能说Tom是最聪明的呀？！

这是as...as结构表示最高级的特殊句式。as…as表达最高级必须符合以下两个条件：

1. as...as any后接名词（名词常被省略）表示最高级。

He is as clever as any (student) in the class. 他是班上最聪明的学生。

2. as...as ever后接动词的过去式，也表示最高级。

He was as brave a soldier as ever lived. 他是最勇敢的士兵。
