关于非谓语动词做状语的问题

请教专家，按照道理，1，2，3题主语和他们的关系都是主动的，都应该用 Devoting和Occupying但是结果不都是。个人感觉无法通过主语和从句的动词方面去解释？那请教专家，具体应该怎么去解释才好理解？谢谢！

要根据动词的用法来辨别非谓语动词用doing还是done。

devote 有三个用法：

1.sb devote sth to (doing) sth 把时间(钱，精力等)献给某事物；

2.devote oneself to sth (doing sth)；

3.be devoted to sth (doing sth)

根据第一个用法，devote是sb主动发出的动作，所以

Devoting(devote) himself to finding out information, the researcher forgot to sleep.

根据第三个用法，在这里的 devoted 可以表示 sb 的状态，所以：

Devoted(devote) to finding out information, the researcher forgot to sleep.

Occupy 也有很多用法:

1.be occupied in doing sth

2.be occupied with sth

3.occupy oneself in doing sth

4.occupy oneself with sth

根据第一种用法，所以：

Occupied(occupy）in a very important experiment he would not attend the party.
