原句：People had no choice but to get their drinking water from toxic sources, and scores ended up in emergency rooms with gastrointestinal illnesses.

请问老师这句话后面的 scores 是不是 scores of them 省略了 of them.

score=20，复数意味着好几个20，即几十人。网友的理解正确，scores=scores of them.

scores [pl] very many 很多

How many people were there? 那里有多少人? There were scores (of them). 有很多（人）.
