不理解的情况下，死记硬背不可取，即便记住也是暂时的，很快就会遗忘。理解才是硬道理。

所以，我建议：你不用去背，也不用去记。只要见到这些词组，就按照我说的思路去分析理解即可。

我分别举例分析：

1. He is anything more than a student.

2. He is nothing more than a student.

3. He is anything less than a student. 

4. He is nothing less than a student.

5. He is anything but a student.

6. He is nothing but a student.

anything 和 nothing 指“他的身份”，其余部分为“超过（more than）；低于（less than）；除外（but）” ，它们搭配后，就是下面的翻译。

1. 他不仅仅是个学生。（解释：他是超过学生之上的任何身份）

2. 他不过是个学生。（解释：超过学生之上，他什么身份也不是）

3. 他根本不是个学生。（解释：他是低于学生之下的任何身份）

4. 他不过是个学生。（解释：低于学生之下，他什么身份也不是）

5. 他根本不是个学生。（解释：除了学生，他什么身份都是）

6. 他不过是个学生。（解释：除了学生，他什么身份都不是）

死记硬背，不但记不住，而且，有时会把意思全弄反了，真有点可怕。
