the night不能单独作时间状语。in [或 during] the night （在夜里）才能作时间状语。

the night, the day之类表示时间概念的名词，后面接从句或短语修饰时，原本位于这些词前面的介词可以省略。

如

You should be there (on) the night before Christmas.

You should be there (on) the day we celebrate Christmas.

(on) The day we celebrate Christmas, you should be there.
