这句话没有任何问题。真实条件句可以是对过去作假设。例如，If he missed the first bus, he would be late again. 说话人并不知道主语he是否真的错过了头一班车，只是假设如果这样就会如何，并没有表示与事实相反。

在不知道他是不是错过第一班公交车的前提下，我的想法是

1）If he missed the first bus, he would have been late again. 推断他应该又一次迟到了。说话人推断“迟到”已经发生。

2）If he missed the first bus, he will be late again. 推断他会又一次迟到了。说话人推断“迟到”还没有发生。也许他还在路上，但到达目的地时会迟到。

你提供的例句If he missed the first bus, he would be late again. 我只能看出是说话人脑海中在臆想一件没有发生的事。即虚拟语气。

在“语法探讨”网友面前说这话很胆怯啊：），有其它的证据吗，或其它的权威例句。我希望我是错的，可以打消我一些根深蒂固的错误观点。
