网友要注意一个概念:动名词虽然可以作名词性的成分例如主语、宾语等,但动名词本身还是动词,可以有宾语,被副词修饰。一个动名词带有状语从句也是很自然的事。所以,下面这个句子中,作主语的并不是网友认为的“一个名词+从句”,而是动名词短语作主语。

Finishing a painting before the plaster dried was a real challenge for fresco painters.

你的疑惑产生的原因,是你混淆了动名词和名词的区别,忽略了动名词本身是个动词(非限定动词)这个现实。

动名词,不定式做主语都可以用状语,其中的状语包括状语从句,也就是说,动名词不定式可以接状语从句作状语。
