看了曾老师的解答，我补充一下：

now that 在表示“原因”的程度上，与since 十分接近。两者均可引出原因状语从句，意为“既然……”，“由于……”，但有区别。now that 表示：主句有新情况出现或暗示有新的信息，且常位于句首。如：

Now that we are alone, we can speak freely. 既然我们单独在一起，那么就可以畅说欲言了。

Now that everybody is here, let’s begin our meeting. 既然都在这里，那我们就开会吧。

since 则表示双方都知道的原因，是“已知信息”。且用途较广。如：

Since all of you have not read this article, we’ll not discuss it. 既然你们都没读过这篇文章，那我们就不讨论了。

Since you are going, I will go too. 既然你打算去，那我也去。

now that 与 because 的区别：

because 表示原因语气最强，它所表示的是直接的原因和理由，所引出的原因从句是全句的中心。如：

We must be leaving now because it is getting dark. 我们得走了，因为天快黑了。

由于becasue 的特殊意义，所以它可以用于强调句型：It is because... that...，或者作表语：That is because...。而now that 没有上述用法。

He is absent from work because he is ill. 他没上班，是因为生病了。

It is because he is ill that he is absent. （强调句型）

That is because you did not take the task seriously. 

那是因为你没有认真对待这项任务。

now that是连词“既然，因为”，语气远不如because强，相当于since。

Now that dinner is readywash your hands. 饭准备好了，洗手去吧。
Now that you have finished your work you'd better have a rest. 既然你的工作已经做完了，最好休息一下吧。
