far 修饰最高级时总是放在the的前面（不能放在the的后面）。这样用的 far 也可换成 by far。如：

This is (by) far the most expensive bicycle in the shop. 这是这家商店里最贵的自行车。

She is (by) far the most active member in our group. 她是我们组最最活跃的成员。

The last of these reasons is by far the most important. 这些理由中最后一条比其他的重要得多。

far 修饰最高级时总是放在the的前面（不能放在the的后面）；by far 修饰最高级时可以放在the的前面，也可以放在句末。例如：

This is quite / (by) far the most expensive bicycle in the shop. 这是这家商店里相当贵 / She is by far the best teacher. = She is the best teacher by far. 最贵的自行车。她是一名最出色的教师。（摘自赵振才编著的《英语常见问题解答大词典》增订版第五版p.484）

by far也可以用于比较级，通常放在后面。若放在比较级前，应在比较级前加“the”，但在带有“than”的句式中常不用the。例如：

It's by far the quicker to go by train. 坐火车去要快多了。

She is cleverer by far than her boss. (cleverer by far = by far cleverer)她比她的上司要聪明得多。
