wish后接虚拟宾语从句用法

I wish that he could settle down the problem. I wish that he was able to settle down the problem.

前者对将来的虚拟，后者对现在的虚拟，怎么感觉其意思一模一样，可以互换吗？

这二个句子的时间指向是相同的，都表示与现在事实相反的愿望。不同之处是be able to do只表示现在的能力，can/could则可以表示现在的能力或者现在的客观条件的允许做某事。具体事件（由不定式表示）可能是现在的事件，也可能是将来的事件。例如：

He can come tomorrow.

He is able to come tomorrow.

以上二个句子中的coming tomorrow都是由现在的能力或条件决定的。

If it rains tomorrow，he can't come.

If it rains tomorrow, he isn't able to come.

以上二句均为错误。can和is able to 都不能表示将来的能力或条件允许。以上二个句子的主句都应改为will not be able to.

If it rains tomorrow, he won't be able to come.

通过这个例子，我们就可以知道，网友的二个句子中虚拟语气都表示和现在事实相反。
