通常都是将短语动词整体看作谓语，短语有“动词+介词”型的、“动词+副词”型的、“动词+形容词”型的、“动词+名词+介词”型的等等。

1. 若是“动词+介词”，宾语一律置于介词之后。例如：

I have looked for her (the girl) high and low.  我已经到处找过她（那姑娘）了。

2.“动词+副词”可直接跟名词作宾语，将“动词+副词”看作是谓语。例如：

They took away the boy and held him to ransom. 他们劫持男孩勒索赎金。

3. 若是“动词+副词”且代词作宾语，代词必须置于动词和副词之间（名词作宾语亦可如此），副词作宾语补足语。例如：

Please dry the dishes and put them away. 请你把餐具擦干，收拾好。

▲ 但要注意一些既可作副词也可作介词的词（如in, on, over等）。比较：

Will you please bring him in? 请把他带进来好吗？

I believe in him, so I believe what he said. 我信任他，所以我相信他的话。
