Hundreds of them slid off the back of vehicle and on to the road.

请问老师，如何理解 on to？是省略了slid 吗？还是省略了其他动词？

on to是复合介词，也可以写成onto。off the back of vehicle 和 on to the road是两个并列的介词短语作状语。又如：

The hunter went across the brook, through the valley, over the hill and into the forest. 猎人蹚过小河、穿过峡谷、翻过山梁，然后进入丛林。
