explain不能接双宾语。若一定要表示“对（向）某人解释某事”，就要用explain sth. to sb.或explain to sb. sth.，介词短语to sb.是表示对象的状语；如果宾语过长，to sb.通常插在谓语和宾语之间。例如：

He explained to me the rules. = He explained the rules to me. 他向我解释了这些规则。

He then explained to us what it was all about. 接着他给我们解释了这是怎么一回事。

▲ 除explain外，只接事物不接人作宾语的动词还有很多。例如：

She said to him that she wanted to go to town. 她对他说她想去城里。

She whispered to me that his temperature was up again. 她低声对我说他的体温又上升了。

I suggest to them that they set about work immediately. 我向他们建议他们立刻着手工作。
