不定式和现在分词的区别(break one's neck to do/doing)

I wish Sam would study harder, because I am breaking my neck to scrape up the money to keep him in college.
You don't have to break your neck fixing this TV set: I really don't need it next week.
为什么第一句用不定式，第二句用现在分词形式？

break one's neck 是个习语。意为“想法设法；绞尽脑汁；大伤脑筋”。

1. 第一句接不定式，表示目的：为了攒钱供他上大学。不定式表目的，指将来的事情。
