1. penny paper：大众报；便士报（指英国19世纪，售价为一便士一张的报纸，比喻廉价报纸）

2. offering：是可数名词，不是动名词。其本义是：“提供品；出售物；奉献物；祭品”。被newspaper 修饰后，指“刊登的文章、报道、故事、逸闻等”，统称为“出版物；发行品”。意为所有印刷在报纸上的东西。既然offering 是可数名词，而且指上述内容，用复数是完全正确的。

3. the first offerings：第一批出版物，首次发行。
