句与句之间，连接的使用问题

Infants sleep sixteen to eighteen hours daily, the amount gradually increases as they grow older.

这两个小句中并没有起连接作用的连词出现，为什么后面的increase不用非谓语形式increasing？

这个句子原本是改错题。是把increases 改为反义词decreases，同时，把谓语动词改为非谓语动词，从而形成独立主格结构。

Infants sleep sixteen to eighteen hours daily, the amount decreasing gradually as they grow older.（正）

婴儿每天睡眠16至18个小时，随着年龄的增长，睡眠量逐渐增加。

以上句子犯了2个错误

(1)逻辑错误，正确逻辑为“年龄越大，睡眠越少”

(2)在只有1个连词情况下，居然出现3个谓语动词，（根据谓语动词个数-1=连词的个数原理，即3-1=2）应该有2个连词，属于严重语法错误。

修改方案如下

(1)加上正确连词and，或者把后面的谓语动词decreases改为非谓语动词decreasing形式

(2)修改正确逻辑即“年龄越大，睡眠越少”

Infants sleep sixteen to eighteen hours daily and the amount gradually decreases as they grow older.（加上并列连词，改为decreases)

Infants sleep sixteen to eighteen hours daily, the amount gradually decreasing as they grow older.(改为独立主格结构，改为decreasing)

特别备注：

在没有出现省略的“主从复合句”中，即在完整的主从复合句中，谓语动词的个数-1=连词的个数，也就是说谓语动词个数总是要比连词个说多1个。（因为主句1个谓语动词，从句1个谓语动词，连词属于从句的内容，只能有1个）
