depend on虽可以视为不及物动词+介词构成的及物短语动词，但当我们用程度副词修饰depend on时，程度副词是修饰动词的，要位于depend之后，on之前。例如：depend much/little/greatly on sth. 而不是depend on much/little/greatly sth.
less为little的比较级，在此为程度副词， 位置应该在depend之后，而不能位于介词on之后。
far本身也是程度副词，可以用来强调比较级和最高级的形容词和副词。far less为副词little的比较级，than引导比较分句（分句有省略）修饰far less. 所以引导比较状语从句的是than, 而不是far less than.
