关于介词短语作“状语”，还是作“宾补”的问题，我认为：

如果两者都能讲得通，就按“状语”处理，不按“宾补”对待。因为英语中，这类模凌两可的情况较多，即：看作修饰动词也可，看作补充宾语也可。这时，就把它划到状语里面，似更合理。例如：

put/place/lay the book on the desk

write your name on the paper

hang the picture on the wall

如果介词短语没有第二种划分，只有一种划分，即：作宾补，这时才认定为“宾补”。例如：

He found himself in the hospital.

Let the dog out of the room.

make yourself at home.

以上3例，介词短语不修饰谓语动词，而是补充说明宾语。这时，只有一种划分：作宾补。

这样做，是为了缩小宾补成分的范围，让状语修饰谓语有更大的空间。
