如何判断是分词还是动词(worked)
在牛津词典上看到shift有如下解释：

worked后接by介词短语表示施事者，且处于定语位置，worked为过去分词作定语是毫无疑问的。网友的疑问可能是work通常是不及物动词，怎么能用过去分词作定语表示被动关系呢？ 其实，work作及物动词的用法也不少，其中之一就是后接时间名词作宾语。当然这种用法也有可能被分析为时间名词作状语，work还是不及物动词。但至少牛津词典的作者认为这种用法的work是及物动词，后面的时间名词是宾语，所以采用worked的过去分词作定语，修饰时间名词。《韦氏学生词典》也是这种观点：

He works about 60 hours a week.
The job requires that you work some nights and weekends.
She is used to working long hours.

worked 是过去分词。worked by a group workers 作定语修饰 a period of time。
work 可以用作及物动词，与工人上班，农民种地有关系。这时，其意思是：
1. work the land：开垦/耕种土地
2. work the machine： 操作机器
3. work sb. ：让某人干活/工作
4. work shifts：轮班工作
5. work a period of time：工作某个时间段
(说明：4, 5 是一回事）
shift（轮班）：If a group of factory workers, nurses, or other people work shifts, they work for a set period before being replaced by another group, so that there is always a group working. Each of these set periods is called a shift. You can also use shift to refer to a group of workers who work together on a particular shift.
His father worked shifts in a steel mill.
他的父亲在一家钢铁厂轮班工作。
