二位老师的翻译中，“针对/反对总统的（蜂拥）踩踏事件”，中国人是看不懂的。踩踏事件怎么能是反对总统的事件？一定是误解了stampede against的词义。

《韦氏词典》对名词stampede的释义之一为：

a mass movement of people at a common impulse

共同的冲动之下的人们的集体行动。例如，恐慌中的人们的四散而逃。由此意义引申，就可以知道，英文句子的意思是，发生了某件事，随后人们一致抨击、批评总统，用stampede形象的描述批评之多，批评的一致性。“批评”之意来自于介词against. 给人的画面是：一群人奔跑着、呼喊着，要求总统下台。

我的汉语水平有限，试译如下：

随后的连珠炮般的要求总统辞职的呼声源自于她自己的无能，也源自于被她的经济政策带来的灾难性后果所激怒的公众舆论。
