due to 和 owing to 的意思都与 because of（由于）差不多。due to 比 owing to 更常用。

    常常用逗号把 due / owing to 开头的短语与句子的其余部分隔开。

    Due / Owing to the bad weather (,) the match was cancelled. 由于天气不好，比赛取消了。

    We have had to postpone the meeting (,) due / owing to the strike. 由于罢工，我们不得不推迟开会的时间。

    有些人认为，这样把 due to 用于句首是不对的，但是这一结构在标准用法中很常见。

    due to 还可以用在动词 be 的后面。owing to 通常不能这样用。

    His success was due to his mother. 他的成功归功于他的母亲。（不能说：... was owing to his mother.）

    due to 不是一种非限定定语从句的省略。

(1)Their delay was due to the bad weather（作表语）

(2)They delayed due to the bad weather。 （作原因状语）

due 单独使用有以下几种词性

(1)adj.  由于; 适当的; 预定; 到期

(2)n.  应有的权利; 应得到的东西; 应缴款

(3)adv.  正向; 正对着

备注：当与介词to结合后，就是介词短语duo to

(1)due to由于;因为（放在系动词后作表语）

The country's economic problems are largely due to the weakness of the recovery.
